[texas_kos] LTE - Patriot Act

Sent to the Houston Chronicle.

Subject: Goodbye Patriot Act, and good riddance

In the December 15 article "Senate rejects reauthorization of Patriot
Act", Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is quoted as saying, "We have more
to fear from terrorism than we do from this Patriot Act".

I beg to differ.

We have much more to fear from encroaching fascism as practiced by the
Bush administration and those who would kow-tow to it than we ever have
from terrorists.

What good would it do to save our lives from terrorists only to lose our
souls to the dark tide of fascism.

As Benjamin Franklin said, "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to
purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." I
will fight to preserve the safety and liberty of my family, my home, my
nation, and if that means taking on an administration that seems bound and
determined to strip away the honor and freedom that define "American" then
that's what I'll do, too. Elections are just around the corner.

I want my daughter to grow up in the land of the free and the home of the
brave, not the land of the hysterical and the home of the terrified.

Yeah, send it anyway, to everyone you can or know about and let them figure it.

Right ON Julia, get down. count me in. I'm just getting warmed up over here and I think it's gunna be a hell of a decade here in the land of the free.

Thanks! I wanted to send it to a more widely read paper, but, for example,
the NYT didn't have the Frist quote in it.

Suggestions anyone?

Great letter Julia.  Don't stop.  Keep moving.

Bob
