My quotes from the Texas Republican party platform

Several people have emailed me asking where I got the incredible
quotes from the Texas Republican platform that I read at the Green
Party meeting tonight (Jan 16). The original document was 24 pages single spaced
type written, and most people will not have the time or energy to read through
that, so my commentary was taken from selected portions of the
following document:

Now here is something interesting - I am unable to find a complete
statement of the infamous 2004 Texas Republican party platform - can it be that
it is such an embarrassment they have taken it off the Internet? If someone can
find a complete copy of it, please let me know.

If you would like to hear James Goodwill Pierre, the Democratic candidate
for Harris County Clerk (to oppose Beverly Kaufman in November), come to
the February 2 meeting of the Cy-Fair Area Democratic Club. Mr. Pierre will
address the issues of buying printers to create a paper trail for voting
machines and the intimidating language used in training sessions for poll
workers. The club meets at Bear Creek Community Center (Highway 6 and
Patterson Rd. ) at 6:30 P.M. Speakers begin at 7 P.M.

Even the Republicans who wrote the platform don't trust the electronic
voting machines, and seem in complete conflict with (Republican) Harris Co.
Clerk Beverly Kaufman on this issue. (See "Fair Election Procedures" on
page 6.)

Actually it looks like the Texas Repub platform can be found on their
website as follows:

1. Go to their website at href="http://www.texasgop.org">www.texasgop.org

2. Click on "GOP Library" at the top of the page

3. Scan down to the next to last item "2004 Republican Party of Texas
Platform"

4. That takes you to the preamble, at the bottom of which is a link
to the whole platform

But I think the Repub platform is the most powerful weapon
available to all those of us who want to take our state and country back from
the deranged extremists who have captured it. They have provided us the
best campaign material we could possibly ask for in their own words
and we should use it to educate everyone, including many who vote
Republican but have no idea what these people are really about.

We should hang this incredible document around the neck of every Repub
candidate and make them wear it. The Democrats, Greens, Libertarians,
Independents, and every other political group that has a website should
include at a prominent place a list of some of the
most outrageous statements and incredible positions detailed in this
astounding document, and then - if anyone reading that list thinks it
couldn't possibly be true, that it is just partisan political slander - we
should have a direct link to the Repub platform along with a page reference
for ease of locating and verifying each statement.

Of course all platforms have some statements that might be considered a bit
far out, somewhat idealistic, that the nation as a whole may not be ready for
yet, but hopefully nothing we are ashamed of and want to hide, and I doubt there
is anything remotely as radical as some of the provisions of this platform,
which just cannot stand the light of day. I think this can be and should be
one of the primary campaign issues of all us "opposition parties."
