Charlie,
do you have an alias you would like to tell us about?
It's great to see this idea catching on. I recently read
somewhere that someone else is working on developing a statement of
principles or whatever too - was it Howard Dean? It's essential that
the Dems get together as this article says, figure out what they are
supposed to stand for, and make a real pledge to work on those things.
But I'm not totally satisfied with this list either. It's too general and
leaves way too much wiggle room for anyone who wants to evade their
commitment. Also it's another "trust me" statement with no real
teeth. If the Dems don't figure out what they are about pretty
soon and improve their present abysmal performance, everyone is going
to write them off as totally irrelevant and we will continue down the road to
fascism.

I exempted my kids from the requirement to recite
the pledge. hope every parent knows they have the right to do so without
having to explain themselves unlike the uniform policy that says parents must
provide (in writing) a religious or philosophical objection...then
it's left to the judgment of the district<sigh> let's just move
to have the whole preamble recited instead of the pledge....
wanna hear something funny...too bad i'm gonna tell
you anyway. My daughter just called from school asking us to give her an
example of an oxymoron..... I couldn't help it: the first thing that popped into
my head ~ Religious Right.
HAHAHAHA she hung up on me.

Subject: [PAA-Discuss] Nation Discussion
Group
Dear Charlie, et al:
My plate is full with meetings
tonight...one work related and then PAA where I have the task of recruiting
people to run for the board of the Houston Peace and Justice Center, so I
won't be able to attend the Nation Discussion Group. In my absence I hope you
will discuss the idea of us developing and exporting resolutions to be
introduced at precinct conventions and at other applicable groups that we hope
will be made a part of platforms in the future.
The one I've been
advocating for at least two years is: That the Preamble of
the Constitution be recited in all venues (schools, etc.) where the Pledge of
Allegiance is read. It also calls for an understanding/discussion of what the
words in the Preamble like "promote the general welfare" mean.
If you have any questions, please call me.
